A Better Way to Bank is Closer Than You Think

BCU discontinued our participation in the Shared Branch network as of July 1, 2021. Our members come first in every decision that we make, and with the prevalence of easy-to-use digital alternatives, concerns regarding member experience, fewer credit unions participating, and declining usage, we feel that now is the best time to continue to invest further in solutions that provide account access anytime, anywhere for all members.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is my access to BCU branches impacted?

No. Your access to BCU branches is not affected by our decision to discontinue participation in the Shared Branching network.

  • Can I still access Target CU, GEICO CU and UHGCU Branches?

These branches are not affected by our discontinued participation in Shared Branching. Please use the ATM & Location search feature to determine branch hours and accessibility.

  • What is BCU’s history with Shared Branching?

BCU joined the Shared Branch network before online banking and mobile apps were available. As the digital banking experience has improved, more of our Shared Branch users are finding alternative ways to do their transaction using tools such as: Digital Banking, Our Mobile App, Extensive ATM Network, and accessing other BCU Branches.

  • Why is BCU discontinuing participation in the Shared Branching network?

Our members come first in every decision that we make, and with the prevalence of easy-to-use digital alternatives, concerns regarding poor member experience, fewer credit unions participating as well as declining member usage, we feel that now is the best time to continue to invest further in long-term solutions that provide account access anytime, anywhere for all members.

  • Is Shared Branching coming back at BCU?

No. As of July 1, 2021, BCU members are no longer able to access their accounts at other credit unions that participate in Shared Branching.

  • Will I still have access to surcharge-free ATMs?

Yes! BCU remains part of the CO-OP ATM network, so members can use their BCU debit card at 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs worldwide. Members can use them to withdraw cash, deposit cash or checks, make transfers between savings and checking accounts, and more. BCU.org and the BCU mobile banking app include search tools to help members find ATMs near their home, work, or wherever they travel. In addition to surcharge-free ATMS, every month members who meet the PowerPlus™ Checking requirements will have unlimited ATM fees reimbursed.

  • Some members are snowbirds and have used Shared Branching to access BCU accounts while wintering down south. How will this affect them?

We encourage members to check out BCU.org to learn more about the many alternatives for accessing their BCU accounts. We’ve heard from many members who have tried these alternatives for the first time during the pandemic and wondered why they waited so long!

  • Can I still use the Transfer feature to move funds from one Credit Union account to my BCU account?

Yes, you can continue to make these same transactions through Online and Mobile Banking.

  • What are the options for BCU members when it’s inconvenient or impossible to visit a BCU branch location?

Members have 24-hour account access through online banking and our mobile app to pay bills, transfer money, deposit checks and send or receive money using Zelle®. Members can also visit our network of 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs to deposit and withdraw cash from your account. For support, members can also reach us through Live Chat, automated telephone banking, secure messaging in online banking, by visiting a BCU branch location, or by calling our Contact Center Monday through Friday, 7am-8pm or Saturday 8am-4:30pm. Members can learn more about banking options in our help center with the “Branch Service Alternatives” article.
