BCU Teams Up With The Community Works To Provide Furniture Donation

June 24, 2021

BCU has donated gently used furniture from its recently decommissioned Naperville satellite office to The Community Works, a Waukegan-based minority-owned organization that provides lifetime career coaching and support services, including resume development and job application and networking support.

“The furniture donation has motivated our students to create a "professional" studio space, and our Hero Academy is looking better than ever,” said Yvette Ewing, The Community Works Executive Director and Chief Inspiration Officer. “We have seen a 50% increase in productivity with their podcast and video productions. A special bonus is when students take pics of themselves and share the "workspace" with friends and family via social media. We will be using our Hero Academy Tech Hub to train elementary and middle schoolers in Media Arts this summer, via music, video, and podcasting. Thank you to BCU for your generous donation.”

“While BCU remains open to the community in Northern Illinois, the Pandemic has changed so much about how and where our back-office teams work to ensure exceptional service for our members,” said Ken Dryfhout, BCU Vice President of Strategy & Growth. “Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee nominated The Community Works as a worthy organization that could benefit from the gently used furniture from our former Naperville satellite office and we unanimously agreed that it was a wonderful fit. We are proud to partner with an organization that is helping people in Northern Illinois move toward discovering financial freedom.”

The Community Works partners with all willing and capable people that are unable to sustain themselves and their families, to assist them in advancing to economic self-sufficiency through employment.

“We look forward to the donation helping to expand The Community Works’ mission and the opportunity to partner again in the future,” added Dryfhout.

In 2020, BCU was named a Forbes Best-In-State Credit Union for the second consecutive year, ranking #1 in Illinois and #5 in Minnesota. Members voted BCU to the top spot based on overall satisfaction, trust, service, product offerings, and financial well-being resources.
