  • What is direct deposit?

    Direct deposit is a payment received from a person or organization directly to your account. These include payroll, government (such as Social Security) and dividend direct deposits from investment accounts.

  • What are the advantages to direct deposit with BCU?

    Simply set up recurring direct deposit and the money will be waiting in your account as soon as it becomes available – up to two days early1! In addition to immediate access to your funds, it’s more secure than using paper checks and saves you time from making physical deposits. Direct deposit also help you qualify for Rewards Rates2 on select loans and deposit accounts.

  • What information do I need to manually set up direct deposit with my employer?

    Please have the following information available: 

    Institution Name: BCU
    Address: 340 N Milwaukee Ave, Vernon Hills, IL 60061
    ABA/Routing Number: 271992400
    Account (MICR) Number: Select your deposit account in Digital Banking, visit the “Details” tab and click/tap the eye icon to view the 14-digit number.

  • Can I split my paycheck between BCU and another financial institution?

    When setting up direct deposit through your employer, you should be able to deposit the money into one or split it into two different accounts. Please check with your employer to explore your options.

  • How do I get started?

  • What are the different checking account options offered by the Credit Union?

    The Credit Union offers a variety of checking account options—all with no monthly maintenance fees or minimum balance requirements:

    PowerPlus™ Checking—allows you to earn a great dividend rate on balances up to $15,0001, provides unlimited monthly cash refunds of out-of-network ATM fees and simplified monthly qualifications

    Simply Checking™—a basic account for your day-to-day transactions

    Minors over the age of 16 are eligible to open a checking account if a parent or legal guardian is listed as the joint account holder on the membership.

  • What is my MICR number or account number?

    Your 14-digit Direct Deposit/MICR Number can be found on the bottom of your checks. You will see a series of numbers separated by colons (:) or other symbols. Your Direct Deposit/MICR Number is the series of numbers in the middle (see bold below).

    Example: 271992400 : 00000000000000 : 0000

    If you don't have checks, you can also retrieve this number by logging into Online Banking and selecting the deposit account for which you would like the information. Simply:

    Log in to Online Banking.

    Select the account you'd like to view from your account list.

    The routing number and MICR/Direct Deposit number will appear underneath the Account Details section. 

    NOTE: Loan account numbers can be found on the loan coupon book. If you don't have a coupon book, please contact us for your loan number.

  • What is the routing number for the Credit Union?

    The Credit Union's routing number is 271992400.

  • Is there a fee?

    No, there is no fee. Direct deposit is free for all members.

  • What is a MICR number and what does it mean?

    MICR stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. This is the account number listed on the bottom of your checks. This information is used for setting up direct deposits and automatic withdrawals from your accounts.

  • Disclosure

    Some organizations may still require you to print or send a form to initiate a direct deposit. In these instances, you’ll be prompted to do so on screen.


    Direct deposit allows you to receive payroll and other electronic deposits up to two days ahead of your scheduled payday. It’s important to note, funds are not AVAILABLE for you to spend until they are reflected in the AVAILABLE BALANCE. Please be sure to confirm available funds in your account before withdrawing against this deposit. While BCU will try wherever possible to advance payroll direct deposits by up to 2 days, availability of funds ahead of the original scheduled pay date is not guaranteed. You should not rely on direct deposit to satisfy the needs of scheduled bill or loan payments, or any other date-sensitive financial obligations.
